Understanding your plumbing system

Each month, our goal is to educate you so you can identify and understand your plumbing system.  This month we are focusing on the “guardians” of your your water line.

If you have high water pressure or hear loud noises when turning off faucets, it may be time to have your PRV and PVB inspected by a professional.

Pressure Reducing Valve (PRV): Your PRV is the frontline defense for your plumbing. It stabilizes incoming water pressure to a safe level, preventing high-pressure damage that leads to pipe leaks, burst hoses, and equipment failure.

Pressure Vacuum Breaker (PVB): This essential device protects your drinking water from contamination. A PVB prevents “back-siphonage,” stopping water from your irrigation system or lawn sprinklers from being drawn back into your household supply.
